I am going to dump the web host that I was using since last 3 years.
The same host which I referred to at least 5 of my friends. They were never the best host but they always responded me timely when I had problems. They helped me a lot. When my websites started to use more resources they asked me to upgrade the hosting plan which I readily agreed.
But last month month had been a bad experience a very bad one. At least 5 of my websites got phishing attack. I got emails from the banks and even calls from north America asking me to remove the offending content. That was ok, it happens. My host will help me clean the website. That was what I had thought but they didn’t.
Let me explain from the start. The host recently outsourced support service to India. That is where the problem started. I was supposed to receive a reply within 24 hours but they would not reply me till 5 days. They would send me an email asking me to remove the offending content without looking at my previous ticket about the same issue. I sent them a request to remove things and they are asking me to remove the same stuff. Common man, how can you not reply a ticket for 5 days where you’re supposed to give 24/7 support? Fuck you.
The phising attack, OMG, it is the first time I’ve seen attack of this kind. They first upload a file whose name would look like ordinary website file somehow. And that all. The file is publicly accessible and from that file one can create directory, rename it, upload new files and everything else including delete all the files. Can you believe that? you better believe it and secure you site. What they did with me is they uploaded files identical to the online banking login page of Bank Of America, Natwest and few canadian banks. And they they probably sent email to the users of the bank asking to login using my site. When requested by the agencies working for those banks, I removed those pages but they would be back in the website again. I had no idea how that is happening. And then Google Analytics came in rescue. I saw a spike on traffic by 1000% and then I checked the most active landing pages. There they were, the files which would let them create new directory and upload the pages in my website. All of my sites are clean now, I guess.

I had a discussing with my girl on this yesterday. She always expects me to be the first one to wish her in all the occasion. And I always fail to be so. I really don’t see the importance of such things. I think its OK as long as you wish. It OK even if you do not wish. Things doesn’t change if you get a lot of wishes.
