I have a very wide taste of music. You can find me listening Louise Armstrong one day and Pearl Jam another day and then Anil Shahi, Trikaal, Mukti & Revival, Nepathya, Deep Purple, Arctic Monkeys, Jet, Wolf Mother, Kings of leon, System of a Dawn other day. Even Bob Dylon, Anouskaa Shankar and Strings sometimes. There are only two genre I do not like to listen. Nepali movie soundtracks and R&B.
So lately I’d been indulging into South Asian Rock Scene. Everybody knows about Junoon, Strings, Jal etc but there are few more bands I think which are underrated.
First one is Indian Ocean. There is no similar act anywhere in the world. They fuse together rock and indian classical/folk and their lyrics are super awesome. They are certainly underrated mostly because their songs are not shown in TV. But their concerts are very popular among Indian university students. I would love to attend their concert some day. Very few people know that the famous Bandeh song from Black Friday was done by Indian Ocean. In fact it is their track “Chase” what made the famous chase scene on the movie so good.A documentary about Indian Ocean “Leaving Home For Music” has just been released in some theaters in India. I wish it will help on the journey of Indian Ocean. Recently Indian Ocean lost one of their most important band member Aseem Chakravorty. There is noone who can play and sing like Aseem but I wish that Indian Ocean can find someone very good in his place. Some of their best songs are Bandeh, Chase, Bhor, Jhini, Euphoria and Desert Rain.
I often get goosebumps when I listen them even after listening for 100 times. They are different genre but I feel like listening Pink Floyd while listening them.
And there is this rock band Agnee. They are getting popular after making songs for MTV Roadies and MTV Splitsvilla. But they have better songs like Kabira, Sam Tanha and Sadho Re. And of course the “Tandav” song. Although this is the song of current Agnee, they have get it together very well. Fortunately, I got a chance to attend their concert last year in New Delhi. Like Indian Ocean I like their song for having unconventional lyrics and wonderful music.
And of course Junoon. Mostly people know them for the song “Junoon” but they have better songs. Like Ghoom Taana, Garaj Baras, Tara Jala, Pappu Yaar. They have collaborate with respected musicians like Subha Mughdal, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan etc.
And of course supernatural season 6. Its a great time pass.
